285 South is growing!
That's because this year we are a proud recipient of an investment from The Pivot Fund, a venture philanthropy organization dedicated to investing $500 million into hyperlocal Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC)-led community newsrooms.
Since its 2021 launch, The Pivot Fund has been supporting BIPOC-led media who directly and thoughtfully cover and serve their own communities. Past grantees include Pasa La Voz Noticias, NotiVisión Georgia, and BEE TV Network. (Read more about Pivot’s refreshing approach in this article by founder Tracie Powell).
This grant gives 285 South the capacity to hire freelance reporters, editors and photographers, as well as a full-time reporter. Interested in working with us? Drop me a note at sophia@285south.com or respond to this email.
What does that mean for you? More stories centering the perspectives of Metro Atlanta’s diverse communities. Deeper coverage. And an opportunity to support 285 South (more on that soon!) and grow our community together.
Have suggestions/ideas/comments on the types of stories you want to see? Fill out this Google form, or reply to this email.
As always, thank you for reading, and through your reading, supporting the existence (and growth) of 285 South.
Thank you for your creativity and passion in bringing a useful and community-friendly information source to Atlanta. Classy, consistent, people-centered. 🙏 Grateful.
Amazing!
