Welcome to December! What a year. PHEW. Lots happening this month between holiday bazaars, food drives, and ongoing organizing around Palestine.

Friday, December 1
“Palestine in Pictures” - The Alif Institute is hosting a series of movie nights featuring films about Palestine. This Friday’s movie, Gaza Mon Amour, is a film about a fisherman in Gaza falling in love with a woman who works at the local market. Dinner (eggplant fatteh, salad, and dessert) is available for purchase for $15. The movie is free. 7 pm. The Alif Institute, 3288 Marjan Drive, Atlanta, 30340. Details here.
Because of War documentary- Another film screening! This one, produced by the nonprofit Heavenly Culture, World Peace, and Restoration of Light (HWPL), is about how the organization has supported communities in Clarkston who have fled war. Latin American Association Christmas Market: The Buford highway based nonprofit is hosting a holiday market featuring items from local businesses run by Latina entrepreneurs - everything from handmade jewelry to traditional crafts to clothing. Alternative gift market: A Decatur based church is having its annual gift market - this one featuring items from small, local businesses, and supporting refugee and immigrant communities. Expect to find alpaca wool scarves from Ecuador, Syrian desserts, and Christmas ornaments made by ornaments in Kenya. 10 am to 3 pm. 611 Medlock Road, Decatur, 30033. More info here and here.
A winter bazaar, and more.: This one, at the Alif Institute, also features food and items from local artists and entrepreneurs, as well as a discussion about Palestine, a community empowerment session, and family activities organized by “Atlanta Kids for Palestine.” 1 pm to 8 pm. March for Palestine: A coalition of organizations including Jewish Voices for Peace, CAIR Georgia, the American Friends Service Committee, and the Atlanta Multifaith Coalition, is organizing a “Funeral and Mass March for Victims of the War on Palestine.” 2pm. Hang out and wrap gifts: New American Pathways is looking for volunteers to join them for a gift wrapping session at their office. Donation drive for domestic violence survivors: The Georgia Asian Pacific American Bar Association (GAPABA) is organizing a donation drive for the families of South Asian survivors of domestic violence, through nonprofit partner Raksha. Check out the Amazon wishlist here.
Call for artists: Atlanta-based writer Fiza Pirani is looking for poets and writers who are interested in participating in a solidarity reading for Palestine. More info on how to get involved here.
