Here’s what’s happening around town this month.
There are lots of Lunar New Year events this month, and we just can’t keep up. We Love Buford Highway has this great roundup of community happenings in and around the corridor, and Eater Atlanta has this more food focused one. ‘Spread the love - food distribution and family fun day’: Los Vecinos de Buford Highway, in partnership with the Church of Incarnation and the YMCA, is hosting a family event with resources, activities, and food for the first 250 families. 11am to 1pm, 5522 New Peachtree Road #127, Atlanta, 30341. Lunar New Year in Decatur: Check out performances from the Atlanta Chinese Dance Company, Tinikling, a Filipino dance by Georgia Tech Filipino students, a Lion Dance, and more, at Decatur’s Pan-Asian Lunar New Year festival. Vietnamese group hosts weekend-long festival: The Vietnamese American Community of Georgia hosts its annual Tet Lunar New Year festival, featuring beauty pageants, a lucky money giveaway, lion dances, and Vietnamese street food. 1pm to 11pm on Saturday and Sunday. Immigrant Rights Thursdays: Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Atlanta (AAAJ-Atl) is gathering folks interested in advocating for immigrants at the Georgia State Capitol. Latin American artist exhibit opens at Oglethorpe: Contrapunto - a collective of Latin American artists based in the Atlanta area - is exhibiting its work at the Oglethorpe University Museum of Art. The museum will host a talk with the artists on February 29 (details forthcoming).
